Oak Lodge offers a wide range of activities and entertainment which we actively encourage service users to engage in. We organise regular reminiscence therapy, sing-a-longs, shopping trips to town with wheelchairs, light exercise sessions and baking/pottery-making sessions. For those with gardening hobbies, we have a regular gardener who gets the service users involved when planning and planting during various seasons. A full activities programme is available to help Service users plan their days in advance.
We believe that opportunities should be made available for religious and political beliefs to be expressed and continued. This involves recognition and practices such as prayer and contemplation, which require privacy and quiet, enabling residents to visit place of worship. Visits to the local church can be arranged or anyone can choose to attend the 4 weekly Holy Communion within the Home conducted by the local church organisation. The activities within the Home will sustain the quality of life of the Service Users.
We encourage relatives and friends to phone or visit regularly and Service Users are able to see their visitors in their rooms or in the communal areas and in the ‘quiet’ room for any private or legal representatives.
There is opportunity for the Service Users to use the services of a regular visiting hairdresser, chiropodist and beauty therapist. All treatments are at a subsidised rate and are carefully monitored by the Manager and senior staff.
Service users are given the freedom to go out and about the Home as they please. However we request that, for fire and safety reasons, service users to let a member of staff know whenever they plan to go out of the Home.
Our catering staff provide a traditional and varied menu of delicious home-cooked meals. All specific dietary requirements and nutritional needs of service users are catered for. We encourage residents to join in with the social aspect of meal times in the dining room, however meal can be taken within the privacy of the service user’s room. The night staff are also on hand to prepare any snacks or drinks required.
